Most of the area saw a quarter to half-inch of rainfall today with a warm front that came through , a period of heavy rain down in South Jersey is moving north could see another quarter to maybe half-inch with 15-25 mph NE winds. Tomorrow will bring some showers in the morning then some thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. It wont rain everywhere tomorrow and will be isolated to scattered but where it does rain it will rain very hard
This band of rain is pretty small but intense and expanding as it comes north
Another round of steady moderate to heavy rain will come late Thursday night through Friday late afternoon, this is where most of our rain will come from with 0.75-1 inch or so possible with thunderstorms could locally be higher. This is when the coastal will phase with a system coming from the west so Friday expect widespread showers and storms and heavy rain slowly coming to an end by sunset. Looks like totals should end up 1.5-3 inches through Friday night
A cold dry air mass will rush in behind the departing storm leading to very windy conditions Friday nigh with winds 25-35 mph , lows around 45 will make Friday night very blustery as well as Saturday where highs will struggle to reach 60 with 15-30 mph winds.
Sunday – Tuesday looks sunny and nice with highs in the low 60s , mid to upper 60s in the urban locations of Newark/NYC and lows around 45 or so
Looks like a strong storm system could affect us Weds-Friday next week , the impacts are uncertain right now but it has potential to bring several inches of rainfall and the first true shot of arctic air behind it. This is all speculation right now but we are in a pattern that supports coastal storms. The exact track and phase still has to be determined. If the 2 storms don’t phase the coastal low will go OTS and just a cold front will come through with showers and we still get the cold air mass behind it , if they phase on time watch out cause that means lots of rain and wind. The way things have been going I would expect them to phase as it seems like based on the lat 2 months every time there’s a chance of a major storm it ends up happening.
