The heaviest rain is now clearly over NW NJ and the coast is getting dry slotted. I saw this on the radar last night that the heaviest rain was pointed towards NW NJ despite all forecasts calling for heaviest rain along the coast. NE NJ is in the moderate rains at times heavy while SE NJ is getting nothing.
Rain is gradually filling into Southern NJ and should increase in intensity later this morning into the afternoon and move North, but being they have a lot of catching up to do down there I am going to lower their totals for SE NJ and raise NW NJ a bit and keep NE NJ the same. The heavy rain is gradually filling into NE NJ too now so I expect similar totals for NW and NE NJ.
Gusty winds are also starting to fill into the area with 15-25 mph winds expected by afternoon for NW areas and 20-30 mph winds along the coast
Right now the rain we are getting is associated with a warm front moving through. I cant rule out a break in the rainfall or a period of lighter rain later this morning as the warm front moves NW but I expect moderate to heavy rain to fill in quickly behind the warm front
Thats the reason SE NJ is not getting much this morning because the warm front set up NW of them but as the coastal low is coming north rain is filling in across SE NJ
NW NJ – 1.75-2.10
NE NJ 1.75-2.10
SE NJ 1.25-1.75 inches
Locally higher amounts of 3 inches are possible for all locations
These are my final calls. I will continue to update through the day but these are the rainfall amounts I expect for the area.
