There were record lows broken last night throughout the region, the record lows for this time of the year are around the freezing mark and basically everyone went below that into the mid 20s to around 30 (about 10-12 degrees below normal). Highs today will range from 48-52 which is 6-10 below average. Lows tonight will be the same as last night upper 20s to low 30s and once again 10+ degrees below average (the average low is 40-42 average high is 58-60)
Tomorrow we start to moderate to around 55 still slightly below average and tomorrow nights lows around 35 or so 5-7 degrees below average.
Monday, the polar high pressure responsible for the cold weekend moves off shore and the clockwise flow around the HIGH will create a SW flow Monday through Wednesday with highs around 60 on Monday and 65-68 Tuesday and 60-62 Wednesday as the High pressure weakens and moves out and a cold front starts moving east
Thursday a cold front will approach from the WNW and create showers and possible thunderstorms Thursday through Friday morning . The initial low will track into the Great Lakes due to a SE ridge but there will be a low meandering off the SE coast and the storm over the Great Lakes looks to pick up the coastal storm and take it up the coast. If this happens Thursday and Friday could be very wet with 2+ inches of rain or we just get a slow-moving cold front with showers and storms on Thursday if the cold front doesn’t pick up the low off the SE US coast
By next weekend we will be back down to where we are now with highs in the 40s – low 50s and lows 20s-30s
Either way another pattern change takes place as the NAO goes negative and a blocking pattern sets up and the AO goes negative sending down cold air from Canada starting Friday. It also turns into a very active pattern with constant cold fronts coming through with the threat of rain with each one and a colder air mass coming in behind each of them. By the week of Thanksgiving the -NAO pattern will be established and the end of the month should be very cold with the threat of snow
This is a very good pattern for coastal storms and more early season snowfall
