The showers down by DC will move ENE towards the forecast area as the cold front approaches and crosses the area late afternoon and evening. That blob of rain over LI is the a coastal storm that was once Tropical Storm Sean, that’s not going to impact us. I expect generally light rain and scattered showers but can’t rule out a burst of heavy rain as there is very strong lifting with this cold front. generally 0.25 or less can be expected and not every one will even get rain. People on LI through Maine can expect a heavy wind-blown rain with 1-3 inches.
This cold front will usher in a much colder air especially compared to the last 3 days, lows will go around 40 tonight, with highs having trouble reaching 50 tomorrow and winds out of the north 15-25 mph gusts to 35 starting later tonight and lasting through tomorrow
Tomorrow night lows will range 28-34 degrees and Saturdays highs will range 50-55 degrees lows 30-35
Sunday, the SE ridge will take control again with highs in the low 60s Sunday and Monday. Monday will feature increasing clouds as the next cold front slowly comes from the west, Tuesday highs will reach the low to mid 60s but cloudy with a good chance of showers if not an all out rainstorm, the cold front looks to stall over or just south and there’s a chance that a strong low will track along the front and dump substantial rain Thursday
This is the QPF (Precipitation map) for next week and it shows 1-2.5 inches through the region next week
This storm will be the beginning of the pattern change I have been going on and on about the last few days. As the cold front moves south and the storm moves east a trough will build down the east coast and lead to highs well below average by Friday with highs around the mid to upper 40s by next weekend and lows in the 20s and 30s So enjoy today’s warmth because next weeks warmth will be accompanied by rain and after a period between Tuesday Thursday the warmth will be a distant memory.
Now for the rain on Thursday, that will depend , if and where the cold front stalls if it moves too far south, Tuesday would be the only rain we see next week and you can cut the 1.5-2.5 inches to more of a .50-1.00 rainfall, either way I expect the break the RAINIEST YEAR ON RECORD with Tuesdays rain storm
I expect a trough to remain dominant over the east coast and a ridge to build in the west by next weekend or the beginning of Thanksgiving week!! This will lead to a VERY INTERESTING DECEMBER as the pattern is showing signs of being absolutely perfect for a cold snowy December
