I am watching 2 storm systems, one will Tuesday into Wednesday, and while mostly rain, it may start off as wintry precipitation. The next is for around the Christmas Eve time period between the 23-25th, this at least right now has the chance to be a decent winter storm.
This weekend will be pretty wintry , especially Sunday
Today, will feature a mixture of sun and clouds and a breezy NW wind, a chance of a flurry later this afternoon, especially for NW areas as a weak reinforcing cold front comes south. Most if not all the snow along this front will dry out over the mountains
Tonight the clouds will clear out and lows 17-24 are expected
For Sunday, it will be cold , the coldest day of the year so far with highs 35-39, and cloudy at times. A slightly better chance of snow flurries as a weak clipper passes north, still though it should be dry for most areas
Lows 18-25 again, upper 20s in the urban areas
Monday will warm up ahead of another cold front with highs around 45, the cold front will come through Monday night with a slight chance of a rain/snow showers lows 25-32
Tuesday the front will stall just south of the area and a low pressure will develop over the Southern Plains and move NE along the front and precipitation may extend well ahead of the main low (overrunning) when warm air rides over the colder air in place.
Tuesday night as of now I expect the precipitation to start off as a light rain/snow/sleet mix I95 and as you progress NW it will turn into mainly snow once you hit the Poconos. I don’t expect much if any accumulation for I95 perhaps a quick coating but there will be a quick changeover to rain as the low will track towards and over the area, warm air will invade quickly. NW NJ could see slight accumulations maybe 1 inch and the Poconos could see 1-3 before the changeover to rain there could also be slight icing but again a quick changeover to rain and whatever accumulates will melt
Wednesday will probably be a warm and rainy day, could be some snow or sleet mixed in the early AM. The main snow event will be over Central NY state through Maine, as the low will track north of us.
I expect around .50 of rain.
This is a fast-moving and fairly weak system that will be in and out and be out by Thursday
Thursday and Friday will be sunny with highs around 45 then we watch a potential coastal storm for December 24-26th that may or may not bring wintry weather, it’s too far away to tell but its being shown as a coastal storm as of now and a pretty strong storm would make sense given the changing teleconnections with the NAO and AO dropping and the PNA going positive. Precipitation type and track will have to be determined but I do think a storm is likely around the Christmas time period
