It may not feel like it today but in 48 hours and Arctic air mass will be roaring into the area!!
For today highs 48-55 are expected with on and off cloudy skies and a few showers around.
Tonight for New Years Eve, a weak cold front will come through, skies will clear and it may become quite chilly for those outside, lows 28-35, around midnight in Time Square should be around 40, mid-upper 30s in the western suburbs so it could obviously be MUCH colder, but still could get chilly if your standing out there for a long time.
New Years day will remain quite mild , sunny and a nice day ahead of a strong arctic cold front there will be a SW wind leading to highs 48-55 degrees again , tomorrow night the cold front will start to progress east and there will be a slight chance of showers, lows around 35
Monday highs will be hit early in the AM before the front crosses, then temperatures will rapidly fall through the afternoon, highs around 40 falling through the 30s and into the 20s by sunset, a strong NW wind of 15-25 mph will develop, a chance of snow flurries possible
Monday night lows will range 17-23 degrees with a strong NW wind to make things feel even colder
Tuesday will be cold highs ranging from 20 over NW to 30 along the coast very windy with a NW WIND 20-30 mph, it will feel brutally cold at times real feels in the mid to upper teens
Tuesday night lows will range from 0-5 over NW NJ and NE PA to 10-15 over Central and NE NJ and 15-18 along the coast
Wednesdays highs will be similar, around 20 over NE PA to 30 along the immediate coast around 25-28 in areas in NE and Central NJ
Lows on Wednesday will range from 10 over NE PA to around 20-25 along the immediate coast, lows 15-18 NE NJ and Central NJ
Thursday will start to warm up, with lack of blocking there’s nothing to keep the cold air around , but still awfully cold and below normal with highs 23-26 over NE PA to around 32 along the coast Central AND NE NJ around 30
Friday and Saturday will moderate to normal to above normal , with highs in the low to mid 40s
Sunday looks to be quite mild ahead of another cold front highs could very well approach 50 but the next cold shot is right around the corner
We are entering a pattern where neither the cold or warm can be dominant due to no blocking but a ridge in the west will send down occasional cold shots, we are also entering a tranquil/ dry pattern, no significant storm expected the next 7 days, it is a step down though because latley the warmth has been dominant
