We currently have an upper level low pressure system spinning off the east coast which is sending in abundant tropical moisture literally right out of the tropics and into NJ and NYC area
We have what is called training going on, heavy rains are moving SE to NW and forming a line which is continuously riding over the same areas, which right now is the NJ coast though Northern NJ and NYC, basically from Atlantic City NJ to Western Long Island and into NW NJ . One area is currently going through the NYC metro area and another is about to move onshore onto the NJ coastline, in these areas of training localized flooding is likely
The yellow areas should expect a steady moderate rain throughout the day with waves of rain moving in off the Atlantic with imbedded thunderstorms and tropical downpours, overall anywhere from 1.5 to as much as 3 inches of rain is expected in this area, minor flooding and occasional flooding will be possible under training rainfall, thunderstorms possible.
The green areas should expect more in the way of showery weather today, the rain could be heavy at times but it will be more scattered in nature and showery , I expect a general 1/3 to 3/4 of an inch , localized areas could possibly exceed an inch, a more steady rain will fill into these areas later this afternoon and tonight off the atlantic ocean, thunderstorms possible.
