Remember in the summer forecast , we said overall temperatures will be around to below normal this summer, but when blocking breaks up WATCH OUT for some serious heat? Well the blocking is BRIEFLY going to break down and so here comes the heat!!!
What has been a very cool June so far, is about to flip ( for a few days) and bring a short duration but pretty powerful “heat wave”. This will not be an official heat wave as you need 3 consecutive days of 90+ degrees, we will only have 2 before flipping back to the same average to below average (temperature wise) pattern we have been in.
For tonight through Tuesday the below average temperatures will continue with highs today only in the mid 60s to low 70s (should be in the low 80s) and lows dropping into the low to mid 50s (should be upper 50s to mid 60s)
Mondays highs will be similar to those of Sunday with all locations stuck in the upper 60s to mid 70s, 60s along the coast, 70s inland, with morning fog and low clouds, which will gradually clear out during the afternoon and lows in the low 50s interior to upper 50s along the coast
Tuesday we will begin to warm up as winds change from Easterly to Westerly as high pressure off of the NE coast exits, with highs moderating to near normal with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s
What we have is an area of high pressure over the SE US ( notice the big dry blob over Alabama). That are of high pressure , which is pumping heat through Texas and through the Midwest due to them being on the west side of the HIGH leading to a WSW flow , will intensify and move ENE off of the east coast. That will then put the whole east coast on the westside of the high with a HAZY , HOT and HUMID flow from the SW .
The disturbance over Ohio will act as a warm front, which will cross Tuesday night with a chance of an isolated shower, but the main thing its going to do it open the doors for heat to invade
Wednesday the heat begins to crank up. The heat will be dry on Wednesday as winds will be more West than SW , and down sloping will be the trigger for heat, highs will range from the low to mid 90s for everyone, expect Long Island where 80s are more likely, lows will only drop into the upper 60s to low 70s with increasing humidity as winds change SW as high pressure exits off the east coast.
Thursday will be the most brutal day as the heat will be accompanied by humidity ahead of a cold front. Highs will range from the low to mid 90s again, some upper 90s possible in the usual hot spots ( NE NJ/NYC metro and Philadelphia metro) with humidity , heat indexes will range from 98-105 degrees!!
If you have to be outside Wednesday or Thursday be sure to bring plenty of water and sun screen
A cold front will come through on Friday which will quickly kick the heat to our South , with a chance of showers and storms, along with a drop in temperatures to below normal by next weekend.
