The heat wave continues!! It has now been 8 days of 90 degrees or more for most of the area and 2 weeks of a widespread heat wave through the country!! We are going to continue to rack up those 90 degree days though Sunday and I have a feeling many more are to come later brief relief next week!!
For your Friday on this holiday weekend, highs will be similar to those of Thursday, low to mid 90s BUT humidity will be on th increase through the day as the heat ridge takes FULL control so heat indexes with be in the upper 90s to around 100 for most of the area. Lows will only drop into the low to mid 70s
Saturday is just going be brutal, there’s no better way to put it
When you see dry and sinking air (left 2 images ) thickness at the 500 mb level at 570+(top right image) and temperatures at the 850 mb level exceeding 20 degree celsius (bottom right image) and all this in July it spells trouble
The heat ridge will briefly jump NE bringing the most significant sinking air and therefore warming air to the eastern US , temperatures between 18-20 C in July guarantee 90s , in this case we are approaching 25C which means we start including 100s into the mix, add that with the fact that there is very strong sinking air, no threat for thunderstorms and the fact that we are t peak sun angle and you get widespread 100s, so yes Saturdill rival the hottest days on record and will rival records set the st 2 summers.
So basically on Saturday between DC d Philly, I expect highs to range from 100-107, obviously hotter towards DC, center city Philadelphia could hit between 102-105 , between Philly and NYC I expect highs to range from 98-103 , even along the immediate coastline besides southeastern Ocean through Cape May where they are surrounded by water, only 92-97 is expected in those spots ( :
The image below shows expected highs
Saturday night into Sunday a strong cold front will come through with scattered storms and will FINALLY break this heat wave going into early next week. Some storms could be strong to severe with outrageous heat instability to work with
The line will move SE through the morning hours of Sunday before clearing out and cooling off Sunday night into Monday with more seasonable temperatures , hint though, don’t get used to seasonable temperatures, they wont last long.
