Today ended up being a much wetter day than expected in the forecast area, we have a strong and pretty impressive upper level low in control of the east, this storm is tracking a bit farther east than expected, so instead of the steady heavy rain being over central and west PA it instead set up over Eastern PA and NJ
All the greens and reds are clouds and moisture streaming up the east coast, we have a direct connection from the tropics , todays rain was driven by a warm front extending out from this system. This storm system wont be going anywhere in the next 48 hours. Being on the eastern side of the storm, the flow is out of the south , transporting a warmer and more humid air mass into the region
We can see the more steady rain is on the way out but there is still scattered showers, some which are heavy, and there is also a lot of drizzle/mist, this will be a theme through the next 2 days , overall cloudy with scattered showers (I don’t expect the steady rain we saw today) and some could be heavy.
Tomorrow this warm humid air mass will remain continue to be transported into the area, so tomorrow will be mostly cloudy and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms , with highs in the low 70s NE PA to upper 70s and low 80s along the coast, we will see a break in the showers tomorrow night but continuation of mild conditions with lows in the upper 50s NE PA to mid 60s along the coast
Thursday the threat for showers will return with another disturbance, again scattered in nature so it wont be a wash out nor will it rain everywhere but where it does rain it could be heavy with this tropical air mass in place.
Finally the storm system will clear out Thursday night leading to clearing skies and a slightly cooler and drier air mass, with lows falling into the upper 40s NE PA to mid to upper 50s
Friday, while the mild air will remain in place, it will be more dry and comfortable , with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s NE PA to upper 70s along the coast lows in the mid to upper 40s NE PA to low to mid 50s along the coast , the nice weather wont last long though
On Saturday a strong cold front will come SE , and with that will come the threat for scattered showers, cooler conditions and mark the beginning of a very cool to even cold air mass , so Saturday clouds will return and showers will also return along with highs in the low to mid 60s NE PA to upper 60s and low 70s along the coast
Saturday night into Sunday this front will slow down and stall briefly just south of NJ , a cold air mass will be moving in but a wave of low pressure will ride this front, potentially leading to an increasing chance of showers Saturday night, turning into a steady rain Sunday, lows Saturday night will fall into the low 40s NE PA to upper 40s along the coast ‘
Sunday will be a cold day, with a cold rain, highs in the upper 40s to low 50s NE PA to mid to upper 50s along the coast, lows Sunday night will be the coldest of the year once the storm clears out, lows in the low 30s NE PA to low 40s along the coast, the same Canadian air mass will remain in place through mid-week, with highs in NE PA being in the upper 40s to low 50s and along the coast in the upper 50s to low 60s, lows in the low to mid 30s NE PA low to mid 40s along the coast, an air mass expected more so in late October .
Monday and Tuesday the 850 mb freezing line will set up over the area, and Monday night will be the coldest night with low 30s NE PA to low 40s along the coast ( I wouldn’t be surprised to see some upper 30s even in some coastal areas come Tuesday morning)
Wednesday and Thursday I expect some moderation , more towards normal levels with highs in the low to mid 50s NE PA to low to mid 60s along the coast, lows in the upper 30s to low 40s NE PA to mid to upper 40s along the coast with clear skies and low humidity ahead of a cold front, before again a colder air mass spills in late next week.
