After a very chilly upcoming 48 hour period, a warmer pattern is going to take hold between Sunday and Friday of next week
Ok so why do I have a west coast satellite posted? We have a very important pattern shift occurring in the Pacific, the EPO is shifting from negative to positive
The EPO is a factor that tells us whether there is a trough or ridge over the Northern Pacific, specifically around and near the Aleutian Islands , just west of Alaska, we were just in a negative phase which is why this past week was so chilly, because a negative EPO means there is a trough over the Aleutian Islands, and that leads to a ridge over Alaska and the western US which leads to a trough in the eastern US.
The opposite can be said in a positive phase, where a ridge is over the Aleutian Islands and thus a trough near Alaska and the west US coast leading to more of a zonal flow from the pacific/ ridge in the eastern US , and what we see above is the EPO transitioning from negative to positive, as a trough and strong ocean storm approaches the US west coast.
So as the trough moves into California, a ridge will build over the east and starting Sunday a much warmer air mass will take over
And will last into Monday
Highs on both days will be in the mid 60s NE PA to low 70s along the coast , lows Sunday night will be mild in the mid 40s NE PA to mid to upper 50s along the coast.
However, as a storm system lifts towards the Great Lakes, a cold front will come through Monday evening with showers and cooler conditions for both Tuesday and Wednesday with near average conditions, highs in the mid to upper 50s NE PA to mid 60s along the coast and lows in the upper 30s NE PA to mid to upper 40s along the coast
A much stronger storm system and cold front will approach for the end of the week as our EPO goes back into a negative phase and the ridge west, trough east alignment begins to restore itself. We will warm up on Thursday and Friday ahead of this system along with increased humidity , highs in the low 60s NE PA to upper 60s to around 70 along the coast.
A heavy wind/ rainstorm will be possible with this system Friday into Saturday as the trough moving in will be quite strong and possible take a negative tilt.
And by next weekend behind the cold front, a deep trough returns and so does the chilly/cold weather
I believe we are going to see a lot of these ups and downs going through November as he EPO phases look to be back and forth under the influence of a very weak ENSO El Nino phase .
