We all know that Hurricane Sandy is coming, it will impact the Mid Atlantic and Northeast in a HUGE and potentially historic way late weekend though Tuesday , the only thing we have got to do now is pinpoint the exact track and effects and today I am going to take a shot at doing just that
I’m leaning towards the European model guidance which represents the southern black line BUT I do not believe that sharp of a turn will occur, but more of a gradual turn, because this is going to be such a large storm I just don’t see a real sharp turn west.
So my track right now takes it into Delaware and my general area , where this could shift in the next 24 hours is between Atlantic City NJ and Northern MD
What impact would this track bring?
This would be worst case scenario for the NJ/NYC coast line, th circulation around the storm means winds would be coming out of the EAST directly off the ocean, which means water will be driving right into these areas, long with a potentially significant storm surge up to 6-9 feet
Winds would be 40-50 mph sustained with gusts up to 75-80 mph for a prolonged period of time (strongest winds would be north of the track)
Rainfall – Heaviest rain will be on the western side of the storm so places like NYC/ LI , Northern/Central NJ and East A would not get the heaviest rains, the heaviest would be Philadelphia rough Washington DC ( 6-10 inches) , still would 4-7 inches in NYC/ LI and Northern/Central NJ.
Flooding- Best shot at flooding will be along and South of the track however tropical downpours will extend up to at Least Connecticut so moderate to major flooding is possible anywhere within the cone.
Power outages will be widespread everywhere within the cone, this is a very large storm with far-reaching effects, the wind shield will be EXPANDING as the storm approaches and becomes hybrid, hybrid simply means the storm has interacted withe the polar jet stream, some cold air is entrained and the storm grows, YOU WILL STILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECTS AS A TROPICAL STORM OR HURRICANE AND SHOULD PREPARE LIKE YOU WOULD FOR A HURRICANE!!
These are the exact impacts we would see should the storm track like I expect, however it may shift in the next 24-36 hours and my FINAL track will come out by Saturday evening and we will be able to determine who gets what and iron out exact details by then but if you live between Connecticut to Washington DC to SE VA , expect major impact and prepare for a tropical storm/ hurricane NOW
