Today is bringing a little taste of what is to come next week , today will be the coldest day of the winter so far with temperatures struggling in the 20s to low 30s for highs, and for lows tonight temperatures will range from mid teens NE PA to mid 20s along the coast , it wont last long as a brief but pretty big warm up is in store for Saturday and Sunday
A clipper system will track well north of the area with the wind flow changing to southwest in response, and will bring in much warmer air for Saturday and Sunday with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s interior to mid to upper 40s along the coast with even som lower 50s possible , Sunday will be slightly cooler but still above average with highs in the upper 30s NE PA to mid 40s along the coast
A cold front will come through the area Sunday night , and behind this cold front will be by far the coldest air mass of the season from Monday through Thursday. Lows on Sunday night will again fall into the mid 10s NE PA to mid 20s along the coast
Above is Monday , and the arctic cold front is through the area with cold air pouring into the area , highs will struggle in the low 20s to low 30s. The coldest air will begin to spill in Monday night with lows in the low to mid 10s interior to upper 10s lower 20s closer to the coast
Tuesday HIGHS will struggle in the upper 10s in NE PA to mid to upper 20s along the coast, we also have to watch for a clipper system on Tuesday which has potential to bring a swath of light to moderate snow through the region as it redevelops off the coast , we just have to see where it redevelops , some models have it redeveloping way off the coast leaving us cold and dry and some develop it along the immediate coast bringing light to moderate snow. Lows Tuesday night will fall into the upper 0s NE PA to mid to upper 10s closer to the coast and upper 10s to around 20 along the immediate coast
And finally Wednesday the brunt of the cold will come south with highs in the mid to upper 10s NE PA to mid 20s along the coast , lows in the upper 0s NE PA to mid teens closer to the coast, upper 10s to along the immediate coast
Thursday will begin to moderate as a clipper tracks north of the area and warmer is drawn in but still cold with highs in the low 20s NE PA to low 30s along the coast and lows in the upper 10s NE PA to mid to upper 20s along the coast , Friday temperatures will rebound to normal to slightly above normal levels with highs in the lower to mid 30s interior to low 40s along the coast
We have to watch a potential storm system for Friday night into Saturday , while at this time models have it racking through the Great Lakes bringing mostly rain to our area, im a bit skeptical of that idea given the Polar vortex over Southern Canada , a coastal storm or Miller B-type storm seems more reasonable but considering it’s a week away its just something to watch at this time. At the very least its a strong cold front that reinforces the cold air by next weekend .
