While our stretch of tranquil spring weather will continue through the weekend, a much more dreary and wet week is expected next week, especially Tuesday and beyond
What is expected to happen is the upper level low currently impacting the middle of the country will slowly progress east into the southeast US this weekend then eventually waddle its way up the east coast early next week
The impact of this system will begin Monday night, as the low comes up the coast we will see increasing clouds from the south-southeast with an increasing easterly wind , this will make for a cloudy and dreary day on Tuesday, most of Tuesday will likely be pretty dry, just overcast with some patchy drizzle developing
We will then likely begin to see isolated to scattered showers come in from the south and east late Tuesday night , slowly becoming more widespread by later Wednesday afternoon , the evolution and movement of this system will be very slow as it is cut off from the main flow and hits the blocking high so once the dreary weather begins it will last for several days
Scattered to widespread showers along with drizzle are expected from Wednesday afternoon through later in the day Thursday as the upper low lingers around the area and sends in a prolonged moist easterly flow
Highs Tuesday-Thursday will be in the low to mid 60s along the coast, mid to upper 60s inland lows in the mid 40s to low 50s are expected
The exact track is still somewhat unknown, if the low tracks west of the area a more steady rain will be likely and possibly heavy , if it tracks over or east of the forecast area more showery and drizzly weather would be expected , right now most models show it tracking east but with these cut off lows its hard to tell tis far out as there is no real steering mechanism , one thing we do know is that the rain is needed as April rainfall was well below average and some parts of the area are in slight drought. Rainfall amounts are hard to pinpoint but a widespread half-inch to 1 inch of rain is possible
Once this upper low exits some warmer air will be introduced by Friday with highs in he mid 60s to lower 70s but a cold front will be heading east which could make another period of wet weather for late week into next weekend , this system is still far out so details are impossible to forecast but will likely again be a slow-moving system with long-lasting impact.
