The upper level low that has been causing trouble across the nation for a week now is now making a visit to our forecast area, and with it came widespread, slow-moving showers, thunderstorms and training bands of heavy rain, some areas who escaped these bands have gotten very little in the way of rain today but for those who have gotten these band have seen anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain , some localized flooding and some weak thunderstorms
The New York City area has been hit particularly hard where areas have exceeded 3 inches and areas of Brooklyn/Manhattan have seen some nasty flooding
These unsettled weather conditions will remain in place all the way through Sunday, today was the most widespread of the next 3 rainfall wise, with the steadiest and most widespread rain now moving west of the area but the threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain a threat , mostly in the way of isolated to scattered showers tonight, becoming a bit more widespread tomorrow afternoon and with some daytime heating a few thunderstorms will also be possible as the upper level low lingers around the area and sends disturbances through, highs for tomorrow will be in the lower to mid 60s for most under mostly cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorms, again in thunderstorms very heavy rainfall is likely along with localized flooding.
For lows we will be in the 50s area wide under cloud cover and showers
Friday will likely be the driest of the next 5 days, where we will be in between 2 storm system, the current one exiting to the NE and another approaching from the west
There will be a slight chance of showers in the morning, a break in the afternoon with somewhat clearing skies and very warm weather, in the 70s area wide with even some low 80s possible in urban locations if we get enough sunshine but even Friday afternoon I can’t rule out a pop up shower or storm, especially for interior sections
The chance of showers will return later Friday evening and last through Sunday morning as a slow-moving cold front moves through the area , it doesnt look like a washout of a weekend just periods of showers, perhaps a weak thunderstorm, with the most widespread coming in Saturday afternoon/evening through early Sunday morning
The front will clear the area Sunday afternoon leading to a big but brief cool down for Sunday night-Tuesday , with highs on Monday only stuck in the 50s for most of the area, and lows could potentially approach freezing for many and drop below freezing over NE PA and the interior, especially Monday night , we could see some plant/crop damage.
With the MJO moving towards phases 4-5 the weather pattern will turn more progressive which will drive this deep trough out rather quickly and lead to a return to seasonable conditions by mid-week , and perhaps even slightly above for a few days before the next cold front comes along.
