The last several days have featured scattered thunderstorms , some of which have been strong to severe due to the hot/humid air mass combining with upper level disturbances dropping WNW to ESE associated with a trough to our north, today will feature to same threat of scattered strong storms but hit or miss in nature, the weather is about to become much wetter than what we have seen over the past few days
Today we will see mostly cloudy skies in northern portions, sunny skies over southern portions of the forecast area, the skies will clear partially for area that are cloudy and will lead to the chance for scattered storms this afternoon with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s , some storms could be strong to severe with the biggest threat being damaging winds and very heavy rain the threat will last through the night-time hours but the biggest threat will be in the evening hours
Tomorrow as a trough slowly dips to the southeast we will see a cold front approach from the west, which will lead to widespread thunderstorms activity the problem is the pattern will become stagnant as a big ridge builds in the western US , another big ridge builds over the Atlantic, the east will be in between the ridge to our east and an amplified trough to our west, so the cold front will be forced to stall over central PA and linger there through much if not all of next week with the threat for thunderstorm and heavy rain each day, we will see waves of showers and thunderstorms ride the front so it wont be a washout during this time period but there will be plenty of rain regardless , the severe thunderstorm threat will wane beyond today as more cloud cover and cooler, more stable conditions are expected, the main threat will be heavy rain and flash flooding Thursday and beyond
Temperatures from Thursday through next week will mostly be in the 80s and around seasonable levels with high levels of humidity low temperatures will be above normal levels under clouds rain and humid conditions in the mid 60s to low 70s
The potential lies for a widespread several inches of rain , this on top of the already near record rain this month will likely lead to flooding problems throughout the area.
